Warm up: How does oxidation weather rocks?
Today we wrapped up weathering by discussing rates of weathering, watching a 15 minute video clip on weathering, and with a partner answered questions on the back of page 2 (homework if not finished in class). Remember: Weathering Super Heroes due TOMORROW!!!! Warm up: What is abrasion? What are 3 ways abrasion occurs in nature?
Today we read an autiobiography of a rock (pg. 4). We had to determine whether the rock was facing mechanical of chemical wethering in different stages of his life. We corrected page 1-2. Warm up #2: What is chemical weathering? Name 4 agents.
Check homework Weathering Super Hero Poster (pg. 13 in science packet)- Final due Wednesday Jan. 26 Work on rough draft in class *Make sure to get it approved by Mrs. Steele 1st! 1. Warm up #1: What is mechanical weathering? Name 4 agents of mechanical weathering.
2. Finished our chemical weathering picture notes. 3. Weathering charades- we acted out agents of chemical and physical weathering and the rest of the class had to guess the agent and then tell whether it was mechanical or chemical by making letters like in the YMCA. Homework: Pg. 2 in our packets, FRONT only! Due tomorrow. 1. 1st 10 minutes- finished page 1
2. Mrs. Steele showed us a PowerPoint about mechanical weathering showing us pictures and animations of ice wedging, animals, plants, and abrasions. 3. Read pages 33-35 individually at our seats 4. Started our chemical weathering picture notes Today we finished up and turned in our lab sheets for our candy cave lab.
1. Looked at real cave formations. 2. Passed out Unit 2 packets 3. With a partner read pages 30-32 and filled out page 1 worksheet front and back Today we finished reading EXTREME EXPLORER.
Next, we were introduced to our next unit by watching the beginning of a CSI episode. The clue left at the crime seen was dirt on the carpet. We wrote in our journals about the importance of dirt in this occasion. We were told we were going to learn much more about the importance of dirt and soil. We finished up the hour by taking a fun soil and weathering quiz together as a class. Mrs. Steele found out what we already know about this topic, and we learned some fun facts as well! Today we checked out science textbooks. These books are loaned to each of us and are therefore our responsibility.
TEXTBOOK EXPECTATIONS: 1. Bring your book to class with you every day 2. Be responsible for your book- treat it nicely and keep track of it. 3. Bring your book home when you have homework, then back to school. Journal Entry: On a half sheet of paper, write down at least 5 things that you like and/or dislike about science so far this year. Make sure to explain your thinking. Feel free to leave your name off of your paper.
1. Today we checked class grades, handed back class work, and turned in any missing assignments. 2. Next, we read a great article called "Trek to the Top of the World" in Extreme Explorer about Conrad Anker, who climbed Mount Everest. 3.
